About the Event
UNICEF’s International Day of the Girl celebrates the strength, potential and rights of the world’s 600 million adolescent girls, while shining a light on the barriers that can prevent them from reaching their full potential.
For girls across Australia, particularly those in regional, rural and remote communities, geographical isolation and limited access to career exposure can narrow what feels possible for their future.
UNIQ You is helping change that.
Through our virtual service, girls can connect directly with women working across STEM, trades and other industries where females remain underrepresented. These real-time career conversations create a safe space to ask questions, discover pathways and see women they can relate to succeeding in careers they may never have considered.
On Thursday 8 October at The Calile, we’ll bring our community together for UNIQ You’s 5th Annual International Day of the Girl Fundraising Breakfast.
Last year, funds raised through the breakfast helped 35 schools access UNIQ You. But demand continues to grow, with more schools applying for support than we currently have funding available to reach. Every dollar raised will help us meet more of that demand — giving more girls, particularly those in regional, remote and disadvantaged communities, access to career conversations with women working in STEM and industries where females are underrepresented.

We are delighted to hear from Kerrie Wilson as our Keynote Speaker
Professor Kerrie Wilson is Queensland’s Chief Scientist and a Professor in the Faculty of Science at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). She is one of Australia’s leading environmental scientists, with more than two decades of experience spanning conservation science, sustainability, research, policy and leadership.
With a Bachelor of Environmental Science and a PhD completed in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme’s World Conservation Monitoring Centre, Kerrie has built a career focused on using science to solve complex environmental challenges and protect biodiversity.
Her pathway demonstrates that a career in STEM can extend far beyond traditional scientific roles — opening doors to research, conservation, policy, international collaboration and leadership. As Queensland’s Chief Scientist, she now plays an important role in strengthening Queensland’s scientific capability and ensuring science informs the state’s future.
We welcome Hon Fiona Simpson as our Guest Speaker
The Honourable Fiona Simpson MP is Queensland’s Minister for Women and Women’s Economic Security, Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships and Minister for Multiculturalism. She has represented the electorate of Maroochydore since 1992 and has held a range of senior parliamentary positions, including serving as the first woman to become Speaker of the Queensland Legislative Assembly.
In her current ministerial roles, Minister Simpson’s portfolio focuses on strengthening women’s economic security and workforce participation, improving opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders, and supporting the social and economic participation of Queensland’s multicultural communities.
Her work supporting women and girls includes initiatives designed to address barriers to employment, strengthen financial confidence and skills, and create greater opportunities for women to participate and succeed in Queensland’s economy.

Schools Access Fund
Last year, our International Day of the Girl Fundraising Breakfast raised $52,356 for our Schools Access Fund, which means 35 schools will receive free access to UNIQ You this year!
